My name is Calogero Scarnà. I am a primary school teacher and an independent software developer specialized in GNU/Linux systems, system security, infrastructure hardening, and server administration.
Over the years, I have focused on building transparent, deterministic, and auditable system architectures, with particular attention to hardening, policy enforcement, and operational reliability.
My work is strongly influenced by Unix philosophy, reproducible builds, minimal attack surface design, and principle-of-least-privilege architectures.
BastionGuard was created to address a fundamental problem in modern security software: excessive abstraction and opaque decision-making. Many security solutions rely on hidden heuristics and undocumented behavior. BastionGuard takes a different approach by providing explicit policies, predictable execution, and fully inspectable logic.
The platform is designed to integrate natively with systemd-based Linux distributions and to operate as a centralized policy and security enforcement layer. Every action performed by BastionGuard is traceable, logged, and reproducible.
BastionGuard is developed as free and open-source software under the GNU GPLv3 license. The project aims to empower system administrators and advanced users with full visibility and control over their security infrastructure.
The BastionGuard trademark was officially filed with the Italian Patent and Trademark Office (UIBM) in December 2025, confirming the long-term commitment to the project and its identity.
